Email List Building is mainly about using email to it's fullest potential.
Here are the basic skills.
Just how you go about it from there will determine the extent of your
email list building success.
 
I would recommend you use Gmail from Google.
First, you must be able to manage your email and delete
it or sort it to it's proper place until you need it.

Here is why I use Gmail.
1. It is a popular email service and many use it for their email lists,
especially the ones they are subscribed to.
2. It has what Google calls Labels to organize your emails.
3. You can create a filter for these emails that you label and they will
be put into that folder.
4. If you save a lot of emails they will not be clogging up your
hard drive and will always be available online where ever you are.
5. There are tools called gadgets you can add to their email client that
helps in organizing your mails.
6. They have exceptional spam control.
Just make sure you white-list any email addresses you don't want in your
spam folder. And check it occasionally for some marked as spam that
are ones you want to receive. Click on Not Spam.
7. You can set up a signature to be automatically appended to your emails

This is just a short list of what Google Mail (Gmail) can do for you so
check it out.

Add a subscriber form to your website with an auto-responder.
Aweber is a very good one and the one I use for my list building.

They have video tutorials and I believe a $1.00 for a  30 day trial.
You will not have to worry about being shut down because of a spam
complaint if you use the double opt-in.

Here is one tip for email list building:
A free gift or report will greatly increase your sign-ups to your email list.
Use something like a PLR that you can give away.

Also a professionally designed graphic of your ebook
will get you more sign-ups to your email list.
Visitors want a visual image of your product.

Once a person puts their name and e-mail address
in this box the auto-responder automatically sends out
your welcome message.
It also automatically adds this person to your mailing list so they can receive your
whole series of letters that you have in your auto-responder.

Your letters or e-mails should contain useful information
about you and your business before you introduce them
to a product.

This will help build a relationship with your prospect first.
Once this relationship is formed you will have
much more success with your marketing.

If you start out by bombarding them with offers, then more
often than not they will un-subscribe and your list building
will be for naught.
I would consider this a being pushy and spamming.
An offer to help them would be better to start with and will
greatly increase your email list building efforts.

Sending information that helps your subscribers see
the need for their own opt-in email list and recommending systems
that work to help them build their own opt-in email list would be far more advantageous.

Your subscribers.
Your subscribers are looking for information and help,
so you will create loyal subscribers if you give them the
help and information they need.

Leave your comments open and read them.
Interact with them by answering their questions.
and thank them for their comments.
